When God provides a solution it is best to follow that advice

Status update, 2023-10-05 evening:

Regarding my fried computer, I am nearly back up and running again. Restoring data was a bit of work.

Important note. (for mac users) I recommend not trusting Apple Time Machine. It scrambled my folder structure. My files were all over the place. I couldn’t find anything.

In the end the best method for me was using Carbon Copy Cloner. Luckily, besides using Time Machine I had also been running a nightly clone task. That clone worked well to transfer into a fresh macOS install. After this I’m convinced CCC is worth the price.

In my last post I mentioned an uplifting story I would share.

I first posted that my laptop died on September 18th. I received several messages from readers expressing support and many encouraging comments. Within roughly one hour of that post I received a message from someone offering to donate to me a spare laptop they had bought for emergencies. A new unopened MacBook Pro. Amazing! I was blown away. After several back and forth emails that brand new laptop arrived about a week later.

When my old laptop died I wondered if that was a sign that maybe it was time to move on from the blog. But, I put out a request for help and help arrived immediately. Hard to ignore.

I opened the new laptop, fired it up and started to restore. Bad news a second time. The battery on the brand new laptop was defective! Unable to charge, it was stuck at 1%. Oh man. The computer gremlins were making things difficult. Again I questioned spending my time posting here. Then I found out the laptop had AppleCare+, so, after a trip to an Apple Store, all the repairs were completed for free and I was back on track.

The last few weeks I have seen signs that what I am doing here is helping people and making a difference. I appreciate the words of encouragement especially. When God provides a solution it is best to follow that advice. I intend to continue posting with renewed enthusiasm. I just need a few more days to finish data cleanup. Then it’s back to calling out the fake news.
