Today we honor people who labor. Factories to Farms, teachers to transportation, civil service to small business owners. Workers. They provide more than tangible products that can be seen and touched. They provide their time and labor.
Labor itself is the glue that produces community.
Industries that embrace this thrive. Places that neglect it stagnate.
I think our culture has forgotten that struggling to get to the destination is essential. Arriving at the destination without work is denying the tangential benefits the labor produces. If more people understood this we would be a stronger country.
I believe that is coming.
That is what people are awakening to. The truth that having the country we want requires persistent labor working hard, getting involved and continual vigilance removing authority from those who deceive and subjugate.
There is real challenge ahead, but that is required for the strength of the community that results. It’s a giant mess to clean up. We need to get busy, grab our tools, dig in and form some calluses.
"Without ambition, one starts nothing. Without work, one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." — Theodore Roosevelt
“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” —Babe Ruth
“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a beautiful essay and let’s us see your heart. Such a courageous and noble heart 💜 The Will to Labor shows up in so many of our expressions. A few images of Labor — the Labor of the Creator who made us in His Image (Their Image works too if you understand Elohim 😊) - the excitement of little children to help and to be part of family and grown ups labor — the neurotransmitters that are only released by successful labor — the pride of those who serve with skill, muscle, steadiness, invention and focus — the gratitude between the sexes for labors most beautifully done by the Other — the longing of prisoners and imprisoned youngsters for the dignity and challenge of labor — the earnestness of seniors to help and support — the responders to crisis, need, disaster that pour out …. We need as a people to try to find labor opportunities and dignity for everyone to participate as best they can. We do not need Greenspans to hold unemployment steady down or mindless robotics to take labor away from people. And, people with too much labor need to be able to call on help from volunteer services that are incentivized (eg service is a badge of social honor and entre in a broad way that does not fill the coffers of arms dealers — at the same time precious warriors are not wasted). And, Labor must rest on the 7th day because the Mysterious Blessings of the Sabbath must finally be received by all God’s children to further the peace.
