Sound of Freedom Box Office - Week 2
What do you see?
The important thing to look at, the thing big wig movie execs look at is the change in numbers.
Theaters are increasing, BOTH weekends <- big deal
”Per Theater” is ALSO increasing (compare the 7th to the 14th, compare the 8th to the 15th, compare the 9th to the 16th, %LW)
Weekly Box Office is UP 66% (see below)!
Of # 1 & #2. One of these alone is big news, but, together:
(More Theaters) x (More $ PER theater) = Acceleration
Viewership is accelerating.
SoF and Super Mario both had opening days mid week. This skews their “Weekly” total because a “Week” in Box Office World is Friday - Thursday. If the release day is Tuesday for instance, then the ticket sales Tue - Thu are a three day short week with less sales than a full 7 day week. This skews the comparison to make the second week numbers look like they increased a lot percentage wise over the first week. Really this is an unfair comparison because it is comparing 3 days of sales to 7 days of sales. In these situations it is better to compare “Weekend” numbers and also to look at the change between full week #2 and full week #3.
The “WEEKEND” change is very impressive. I pasted weekly change and will update when week 3 is available.
Sound of Freedom: Weekend +39% (Weekly unknown until week 3)
Compare below these other “Week 2’s” and “Weekends” from recent films.
Indiana Jones ( -59% / -55% ):
Little Mermaid ( -59% / -57% ):
SpiderMan ( -51% / -54% ):
Guardians of the Galaxy ( -46% / -48% ):
Super Mario Bros. ( -43% / -37% )
(it LOOKS like it had a higher week 2, but week 1 wasn’t a full release. The official Release Date is “Apr 5, 2023”, a Wednesday)
Transformers ( -62% / -66% )
The Flash ( -70% / -72%)
Mission Impossible
Too early to tell, but note, it ALSO had a Wednesday release. I will update when number are available.
Notice that NO other movie had weekend increases for week 2.
What is happening with SoF is very rare.
What the Sound of Freedom numbers signal is viral spread via word of mouth. The fans all love it so much they are actively seeking out friends and family convincing them to go. When is the last time you worked unprovoked to convince someone to go see a movie? Have you ever?
Things like this get noticed by people who look at charts and numbers all day. Right now (on a Sunday) there are probably phone calls between marketing and distro teams figuring out how to manage the worldwide flood about to happen.
At this point I predict it’s going global.
Buckle up.
Enjoy your Sunday frens.
This is What Winning Looks Like.
Some other positive numbers:
SoF is currently #16 for Top 2023 Movies at the Domestic Box Office, and #28 All Time Domestic Box Office for Based on Real Life Events Movies.
FAN-TASTIC! and I haven't seen it yet myself but will, asap.
And the more legacy media tries to sully this movie, the more views it gets. Trends like this are powerful and unstoppable.
A delicious part of the story is that Disney had the movie in storage and never released it to the public. Additionally, all other Disney films are flopping. Woke is death in the box office (and many other places). A monster franchise like Indiana Jones failed? That is a disaster.
So when looking at the bigger picture of the movie industry, it tells a story of the destruction of business models and possibly the demise of long-held institutions. Certainly, heads will start rolling out the door of filmmakers. I hope Kathleen Kenedy will be the first; the rumor is she has been fired.
