On December 3rd, 1967 Dr. Christiaan Barnard of South Africa performed the world’s first heart transplant using the heart of a twenty-five-year-old woman who was severely injured in an accident. While the event was celebrated as a historical feat, concerns immediately arose as it became clear that the donor was killed by the procedure.
A legal loophole was needed in order to absolve those involved in future such operations from murder charges, for which the Harvard Medical School was commissioned in 1968 when it published the paper “A Definition of Irreversible Coma” which established “ irreversible coma as a new criterion for death “.
Prior to 1968, a person was declared dead only after their breathing and heart stopped for a determinate period of time. The current terminology “Brain Death” was unheard of.
When surgeons realized they had the capability of taking organs from one seemingly “close to death” person and implanting them into another person to keep the recipient alive longer, a “Pandora’s Box” was opened.
In the beginning, through trial and error, they discovered it was not possible to perform this “miraculous” surgery with organs taken from someone truly dead – even if the donor was without circulation for merely a few minutes – because organ damage occurs within a very brief time after circulation stops.
To justify their experimental procedures it was necessary for them to come up with a solution which is how the term “Brain Death” was contrived.

The couple drained the pool after their grandchildren grew up and moved away. “We decided well, we don’t use it you know, the kids have moved in different states… that saves us on maintenance… and then just the water, because it does evaporate, so you have to be putting water in there every couple of days… Now they use the empty pool like a hothouse to grow potted tomatoes and lettuce. But the AAA notice said the pool showed signs of “deferred maintenance.” “I don’t understand what their problem is. Because you empty a pool and you’re saving on water.”

But Krugman is an even bigger dolt when the subject he tries to cover is climate. Krugman’s August 7 column titled “Climate Is Now a Culture War Issue” contains glaring errors in virtually every paragraph. Again, this is not surprising, coming from Krugman. If a bank gets in financial trouble and/or experiences a “run-on-the-bank” where depositors begin to pull their money, the FED steps in and provides the troubled bank(s) unlimited capital to maintain faith in the crooked system.
