whole foods was nothing but a marketing gimmick. You need to understand the economics on the grocery store business. The one limiting resource for every grocery store is the square feet of the store itself. There is an unlimited choice of products that they could put in that limited space so they measure their performance by looking at gross sales per Sq Ft. Whole foods showed the grocery industry that they could double/Triple sales per SQ FT with the so called organic products. So every chain wanted in on the action Kroger, Walmart etc. There isn't sufficient "organic" goods out there. So its nothing to import something from lets say China or South America and during transit have it bought and sold mulitple times and in one of those transactions it will magically become Organic. If they get caught its just a financial fine a slap on the wrist and right back to doing it again. They were able to take item 1 that cost $1x and by claiming it as organic its cost is now $4X. No one is going to regulate that difference and be effective at it. Finally not a single person has every eaten anything that wasn't organic. Everything you eat is organic.

I wish, organic today is now compromised. Was a WF patron since 2004 but watched the needy influential crowd take over us (just wanted clean food) the aisles become encumbered with non-holistic crap, local stuff get replaced with agro-green big agro liars, the yoga-moms loading up on sugary (but its pure sugar!) cereals and treats.

Basically witnessed a great idea, hijacked, commercialized and replaced with junk, but the same label.
